About Walter S. Odhiambo - SOS Children's Villages

Walter S. Odhiambo is a seasoned senior executive in the international development and humanitarian sector and has more than 20 years’ experience leading nonprofits in Kenya, South Africa, and Eswatini, and in coordinating peacebuilding and conflict resolution-focused civil society organizations based across 28 countries of Africa’s Great Lakes region. His experience and expertise in this sector traverse education; international affairs; public health and nutrition; disability and inclusion; peacebuilding and conflict resolution; childcare and protection, and youth empowerment and development. Prior to shifting into the international development and humanitarian space, Walter worked with the Coca-Cola Company’s Northern Africa Division as its Market Development Manager for East Africa and the Horns region.

Walter is an alumnus of the UK’s Common Purpose Global Leader’s Programme; US’s Ashoka Visionary Program; and a survivor of the Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT). He holds a master’s degree in organizational development and transformational leadership from the United States International University in Africa (USIU-A); a master’s in strategic management from Moi University; and a bachelor’s degree in Double Mathematics and Statistics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Walter currently serves as the National Director at SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya, a global charity working in close to 138 countries and territories and focused on children who have lost parental care and those at risk of losing it.
