Mtaani Radio/Media

Mtaani Radio (often associated with Mtaani Media) is a community-based radio station in Nairobi, Kenya, based in the Dagoretti area (Kabiria/Kivuli Centre). It is a non-profit, independent community radio station established to give voice to local residents—especially youth—and to highlight social, cultural, and development issues affecting the community.

The station was founded around 2014 and is licensed by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK). It broadcasts mainly in Swahili and Sheng, focusing on grassroots storytelling, local news, education, entertainment, and civic awareness. The platform is known for engaging the community directly through call-ins, outreach programs, and youth participation in content creation.

Mtaani Radio’s mission is to empower marginalized communities, promote peace, civic participation, and provide a platform where “the community speaks for itself.” It is widely recognized as part of Kenya’s growing community media movement that supports local development and youth empowerment.
