His journey began in 2007 when he established the neurosurgical unit at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, at a time when neurosurgery was a rare specialty in the region. But it was the chaos of the 2008 post-election violence that ignited his passion to build something better—Tophill Hospital. The overcrowded, under-resourced wards he saw during the crisis pushed him to take on the monumental task of building a hospital that would not only specialize in neurosurgery but offer comprehensive care to patients in need.
What makes Dr. Koech’s story even more inspiring is his approach to healthcare. He’s built Tophill from the ground up, creating a facility with over 100 beds and 30+ consulting specialists.
