Makerere University's Centre for Artificial Intelligence (Mak-AI) launched the AI Innovation Academy in 2025, a programme that provides training in AI/ML practical skills followed by two months of ideation, innovation, and business incubation training and support, with participants qualifying for seed funding of up to $4,000 to develop their prototypes and MVPs. The Academy, launched in partnership with Pathogen Economy Labs and the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat of Uganda, is designed to help Ugandans and residents develop real-world AI/ML solutions with expert guidance, with applications closing in September 2025.
